To turning this wooden nigerian mask into a metallic object,
maybe copper, one can use different tecniques: below I'll describe one of
many.
This work needs of many layers, to whom more appropriate effects' ll be
applied.
First, create a mask from object and save it as a channel. |

First step: load the saved mask on a new layer,select a uniform fill, color
R153 G102 B102, change
Merge Mode to 'Divide' to delete wood's pasty consistency and its
dark brown color.
Now, the lighter basic color makes working on it easy. |

Create a copy of the original object and place it above the previous image.
Load the saved mask on a new layer and fill it with the color R153
G204 B204, Merge Mode 'Color'
opacity 97%.
With the mask present, combine to background (the copy and last object),
create object from background, cut image with mask, place the new medallion
below 1. |

At this point, 2 is above 1.
Change 1's Merge Mode to 'Color', opacity 100%:
left side image.
It's possible to keep many layers or combine them every time to the background
and cut the new image with the mask . |

We need to combine to the background because we can loose some effects when
we use 'combine objects'.
Load saved mask on a new layer, above 3, uniform fill,
colorR153 G204 B204,
Merge Mode 'soften light', opacity 97%.
With the mask present, create a new object that will be above 4. |

Texture fill, (style, mineral nuv5c). Color mask, select darker colors with
the eyedropper and cut to have two different image: the first of darker
colors, the second of orange color. Delete the darker colors image and change
the Merge Mode of the other one to 'tonality'. |

Copy the last image and change Merge Mode to 'normal', effect/
edge/ find edge 19%, then Gaussian Blur 0,6 pixels, Merge Mode 'texturize'.
Now, create a mask (tool/circle mask, adjusted with control handles) to
cover precisely up the inside circle and save it as a channel. Create a
new layer and select the brush tool. |

Select white as the paint color, airbrush /soft wide cover, menu mask/ create/
stroke mask, inside the mask: modify this gradation-object, Merge Mode 'add'
79%, with eraser tool to create a lighting high/left point (only a separated
layer let us to apply eraser tool without changing the whole image!). |

Invert mask, new layer, brush tool airbrush, create light on right/bottom
edge, Merge Mode 'add' 30%, modify with eraser tool. Create a copy
of original image and place it above the last layer, effect/edge/ find edge,
Gaussian blur 0,4 px, effects 3D emboss, depth 2, level 39, direction 318,
original color. Apply Merge Mode 'texturize'. |

Create a backgroound with shape tool/rectangle and a bitmap fill. For shadow,
dropshadow tool, color black.
For light, the same tool and color R253 G255
B203. Load the first mask on a new layer, fill it with
the last color , place it above, Merge Mode 'Soften light'. |
