When the background has only one color or the contrast is really clear,
it's useful the Color Mask (Mask/Color Mask):
open the dialog box;
reset the default configuration;
use the eyedropper to select the background color (if there are many colors,
change the mask mode to additive) and OK |

Now the background mask is active on the workspace;
invert the mask (mask/invert) to mask the image;
open the feather mask dialog box (mask/shape/feather);
select width=2, direction= outside, edges=curve, OK |
|
Cut mask.
delete the background object;
select object, clear and soften with the eraser tool the image edges removing
all faults.
The category of color-sensitive mask (color mask, lasso, scissors, magic
wand) allows to create complex masks quickly. |

| To delete the background in testing areas, i.e. among hairs, you can enlarge
the image and use strumento eraser tool with the brush (see the photo below)
that erases much in the middle and has soft edges. |
|
PhotoPaint, in version 11, submits, for blocking out, the CutOut tool,
ex Knockout, that speeds up and streamlines work, but, personally, I prefer
a direct operation.
First, delete roughly the background with an hard eraser tool's brush. |

Enlarge the image, eraser toll's brush, soft edge, low dimension (11/14
pixel), work on image to reduce the edge again;
create mask from object |
|
Remove holes (to clear smears);
Feather mask window: width=3, direction=outside, edges=curve;(it's important
to remove the fringe and blend into the image)
cut mask and delete cutted object;
work edges again, on the enlarged image, with a soft brush.
Now the object is blocked out and is ready to put into the new background. |

Adjust its measures;
incorporate the image into its new reality (dirt on shoes, the support,
lights, shadows and colors' shades);
inserts: get (mask/create from object's) the necessary areas from the background;
they will be on different layers;
drag the new layers above main image;
adapt the duplicates with eraser tool; |
|
Lights: correct wrong lights;
use, if necessary, Merge Mode on image's duplicates;
remove every fault in the image; |
|
PhotoPaint offers many tools to correct images:
Image/Adjust (Hue/Saturation/Lightness(HSL), Colour Balance, Selective Colour,
Tone and Hue, Desaturate, and so on....)

Complete improvements;
combine all objects to the background;
soften the edges: working outside and inside the shape's edges, with clone
tool, remove all visible faults. |

Select the girl's head with a mask,
create a new object from it and, in the Object Docker, drag it above main
image;
apply a Gaussian blurr to remove the skin's faults;
erase areas on eyes, mouth and nose with eraser tool. |
|
Increase the final draft of the image;
remove,with clone tool, all faults escaped before or emerged during this
last operation. |
