It is possible to change the transparency of an entire object
or to change the transparency of areas of an object.
The change of the object transparency is determined by the change of the
grayscale value of its individual pixels.
Grayscale values range from black, which has a value of 0 (transparent),
to white, which has a value of 255 (opaque).
The Opacity Slider in the Object docker window determines the opacity
or transparency of the selected object (the entire layer selected). |

The Clip
Mask is a mask that is attached to an individual object: there
can be only one mask on an image, a clip mask can be applied to any object.
One of the primary uses of the Clip Mask is to provide a non-permanent transparency.
The advantage of the Clip Mask is that the transparency action becomes permanent
only when the clip mask and the object are combined.
The transparency of a part of an object can be changed by using the three
Object Transparency Tools that are located in a flyout
in the toolbox (Shadow tool button is the default visible button on the
Toolbox bar):
use Object TransparencyTool to apply a transparent gradient to
an object (this tool is identical in operation to the Gradient Fill Tool); |
|
 |
 |
 |
| use Color Transparency Tool to make specific colors
(o range of colors) transparent (select one or more colors with mouse and
then click on the Pick Tool button); |
|
use Object Transparency Brush to change the transparency
of an object by applying brush strokes.
The Eraser tool (found in the Undo flyout in the Toolbox) is not
a really transparency tool, but it obtains an alike effect: it replaces
the color value of pixels in the image with the Background color as it is
dragged over them: this makes it looks like that portion of the image is
erased, though nothing actually is.
Double clicking on the Eraser tool button erases the selected object.
Only one object can be selected and erased with this method.
Notice that the object remains on the object dockers, but it is cleared. |
